scultura (sculpture)

Separazione

This piece was inspired by the immigration journey of my great grandparents, Leonardo Collella and Angelina Calabrese, who left their families behind in Vieste looking for a more stable life. It explores themes of separation, longing and grief experienced by immigrants and their families. Those topics are particularly resonant for me today in light of the cruel and unconstitutional actions taken by the current administration. Using, especially the broken pieces felt important and symbolic, and for me speaks to wounds that can heal, but still ache.
