Love, Freedom, Peace: People’s Park
This series of two screen prints prints was the culmination of a semester of independent research with professor Seth Lunine, for an honors project focused on the history of People’s for the UC Berkeley Geography Department honors program. The prints feature historic photographs from the Bancroft Library archives as well as David Axelrod’s original September 1976 hand illustrated map of the Calfifornia Plant Communities of Eastern People’s Park. It also includes some of the mutual aid providers who were operating in the park prior to the closure. The layers bottom layers were created from the foliage of trees removed from People’s Park after the hostile takeover actions during the winter break of December 2023-January 2024.
